FLORIDA LEGISLATION PASSES HISTORICAL PROPERTY TAX RELIEF AND REFORM

Help is on the way... In an email distributed by State House speaker Marco Rubio, he announced the acceptance of House Joint Resolution 3B of which will cut property taxes by almost $32 billion dollars over the next 5 years. The constitutional amendent will be voted on by Florida voters on January 29, 2008. This reform means an average reduction of 44% for resident homeowners.

However, some party are saying that the cuts are not deep enough. Do property taxes need to be cut further? Or is something better than nothing? What do you think?

Tax relief may work against real estate vultures - 06/10/2007 - MiamiHerald.com

I've always maintained that the buyers are out there. Over the last several years, I've run into a plenty of folks that love Southwest Florida and were interested in purchasing here in the FUTURE. Most where 1-3 years away from seriously looking, many postponed their decisions due to the overinflated prices and overhead costs brought on from the sharp increase in property taxes and insurance costs. Now that we are starting to see reforms in insurance rates as well as a solid plan to decrease property taxes. Buyers are becoming more open to reentering the Southwest Florida real estate market.

So, where does that leave investors? According to a recent article in yesterday's Miami Herald, investors may be scrambling to pick up bargains before the new wave of buyers comes in.

8 insurers OKd to operate in Florida - 06/05/2007 - MiamiHerald.com

Florida's Office of Insurance Regulation announced the approval to allow 8 new insurance companies ( 5 residential and 3 commercial) to provide coverage in the state of Florida. Although we are not out of the woods when it comes to property insurance, more competition will help rates to decrease over time.
